Come Join Us!

There's nothing quite like participating in Mardi Gras. The colour, the excitement, the spectacle. Here's everything you need to know about to join us for the parade.

When's the Mardi Gras Parade?

Saturday 7 March 2009
» offical Mardi Gras website

How Much Does it Cost?

Marching in the parade costs $200, and includes your costume and VIC Presence membership.

Parading not your thing? You can still join us as a flag bearer or waterperson, which costs just $60, and includes your VIC Presence t-shirt for the event and VIC Presence membership.

Being a VIC Presence member automatically makes you a member of Mardi Gras. Mardi Gras members get discount to over 50 Mardi Gras events, including the post-march Mardi Gras Party and Sleaze Ball.

We need all the money for all fee before rehearsals commence on Mon 16 Feb.

How Much Time's Involved?

We take you from Go to Wow in just 8 rehearsals, each lasting about 2 hours. Rehearsals are concentrated over a 2 week period in the middle of February, each Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evening from 7:30pm. First rehearsal is Mon 16 Feb and we finish on Thu 26 Feb.

Getting & Staying in Sydney

How you get to Sydney and where you stay is up to you. We recommend that you plan and make arrangements early to ensure that you don't miss out. Take advantage of those specials that are available all year round. We will try and keep an eye out for great deals and advise members via e-mail.

After the Parade

You have two options available:

  1. Dinner in a swank (yet cheap) restaurant close to the parade route (we have our members in Sydney checking these out at the moment). Stay tuned for the time and location.
  2. Dance the night away at the Mardi Gras After Party at Fox Studios. We will keep you up to date as to when the tickets go on sale, so that you don't miss out. And as VIC Presence members, you get a discount.

Costumes & Themes

The costumes will be based on last year successful formula of limiting the range of colour, but having 2-3 choices of design, for those who want a revealing costume and those who are more comfortable covering up a little more.

The costumes are very sexy, though not necessarily revealing - but there is always room for "skimpification".

This year's theme is: ...coming soon - stay tuned!

Choreography

Chris Bakis is again our choreographer for 2009. Chris has worked with us for a number of years, and we owe much of our success to his innovative steps and hand movements.
