VIC Presence is a Gay and Lesbian performance group based in Melbourne Victoria.
For the last 12 years, we've been glamming up and marching in Sydney's Mardi Gras parade. And we'll be there for our 13th on Saturday 7 March 2009.
And while it is all about having fun, we do it with flair was well. We're the winners of "Best Out of Town" in 2004 and "Best Costume" in 2006. A photo of our group was used to promote the Bobby Goldsmith Stand for the 2006 Parade, along with numerous shots of our group in the official Mardi Gras guide.
VIC Presence has always been loud, colourful and very energetic. Just ask any of the estimated 550 performers that have danced with us over the years.
Our committee has been working frantically over the last few months to come up with spectacular costumes, great music and a light show that will be bigger and better than ever before.
We're here to promote diversity and unity through performance. We are a gay/straight friendly group made up of people from all walks of life. We do not discriminate on any basis, including gender, sexuality, age, race, religion or looks. Not even dancing ability!
We aim to have fun and to promote gays and lesbians as an integral part of society. VIC Presence is a non-profit, incorporated group which is largely self-funded. All the performers must be members of the group and must be prepared to fund their participation in performances.
We were formed in 1996 with the aim of participating in the 1997 Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras Parade. Whilst performances at Mardi Gras continue to be our main focus, we also perform at other community events throughout the year. We are a membership based organization and as such aim to foster social activities for our members.
